Let’s get started on this new month, celebrating the coming of “God with us”! 📖🌻☕
We are reading 2 Corinthians 4 – in our weakness, in our earthen vessels, His power is made known. “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed”–and we are “renewed day by day”!
Psalm 103:1-10 is our scripture memory assignment this week, and we are writing Isaiah 7:14-17 from our new resource at Sweet Blessings on the Birth of Christ.
Streams in the Desert tells us of the “Devil’s Burden”. What a beautiful story to encourage us to release our burdens. “Just drop them. Refuse to touch them with one of your fingers.” Recently, I’ve been praying throughout the day with a conscious gesture of opening my hands and placing them palm up in my lap. Oh God, take it all.
Tozer writes of “Misplaced Hope”. He leaves us hanging here (actually the person who edited this portion for today’s devotional) and not given us the hope of hope, and that I cannot abide. What God promises is ever and always “Yea and amen”–on Christ the Solid Rock we stand. What is the object of your hope? That will determine if it is indeed worthwhile.
“True Walking Posture” is the topic for Faith’s Checkbook this morning. Inward peace helps us to walk uprightly, and with confidence in our God.
Our prayer scripture from His Mercy Is New, and our theme is “Advent: Give Me Jesus”. We begin with Psalm 63:3, which provides an on-ramp for this month, considering that we have God’s lovingkindness which is better than life because of what Jesus came for…He was born to die for us, so that we might have His favor and be made children of God.
We finish today with “Paradoxes” from The Valley of Vision, which fits so well with the portion quoted above from 2 Cor. 4. Let us not be an “evangelical hypocrite”–wow, what a thing to think about.
