Thanks for meeting with me for worship this morning! 📖🎄☕
We begin today reading in Galatians 6. The principle of sowing and reaping…what are we planting today? We continue memorizing Psalm 103:1-13, and our scripture writing portion is found in Luke 2:1-3. You may know this by heart…so pay all the closer attention to the words. God sees the whole timeline of our lives, so in order for the prophesy to be fulfilled that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2–written 700 years before the birth of Christ), there had to be a reason to bring Mary and Joseph back there. God used a census and a ruler named Caesar Augustus to bring this to pass.
In Streams in the Desert, we read of a “Night of Pure Faith”–“know that He who passed through the horror of the darkness of Calvary, with the cry of forsakenness, is ready to bear you company through the valley of the shadow of death till you see the sun shining upon its further side.”
“Dealing With Sin” is Tozer’s topic this morning…we must continually ask God to help us understand the “exceeding sinfulness of sin”. Until we view sin as God does, we will never fully appreciate our redemption from it. Faith’s Checkbook was inadvertently overlooked today, and will be included in tomorrow’s podcast.
Our scripture for our prayer time is Colossians 3:4—Christ is our life. As Paul wrote, “in Him we live, and move, and have our being”. The Christmas hymn we look at today is “O Come, All Ye Faithful” (I share the story of how this was the processional for our wedding in December of 1992), and we finish with a portion of “The Gift of Gifts” from the Valley of Vision: “He came to die my death…take me to the watchful shepherds and enlarge my mind”.
