Happy Christmas Eve Eve! O Come, Let Us Adore Him! 📖🎄☕
We start our New Testament reading in Ephesians this morning, with a beautiful prayer: “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places…”
The book I mention today is “Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God” by J. I. Packer.
Our scripture writing passage for today is Luke 2:4-7…because Jesus was born in a manger, swaddling clothes (linen strips which were customarily used to wrap newborn lambs) were ready to hand. Perfect for the Lamb of God. We continue memorizing Psalm 103:1-13.
In Streams in the Desert, we read about “God’s Refreshment” regarding how God met Elijah at Cherith. If you are feeling weary, this will be a lovely balm to your soul and body:
“He knows you do pray, He knows you do trust,And He knows, too, the limits’ of poor weak dust.Oh, the wonderful sympathy of Christ,For His chosen ones in that midnight tryst,
“When He bade them sleep and take their rest,While on Him the guilt of the whole world pressed—You’ve given your life up to Him to keep,Then don’t be afraid to go right to sleep.”
Tozer writes about “Exploring Divine Revelation” today. “This vast sea of truth is expressed in nature, in the Holy Scriptures and in Christ, the Wisdom of God incarnate.” We have all the truth we need already provided for us by our loving Father. Nothing more is necessary, and to add or subtract from it is not for mere humans to do.
Faith’s Checkbook describes “Precious Things” for us… ” The all-sufficiency of Jehovah is ours forever. Let us resort to it now.” We also look at yesterday’s portion (and I call it “Tozer” by mistake…boy was I tired!) entitled, “Immediately Present”: He is our very present help, let us repose in Him now. We need not have a moment’s care or an instant’s fear. “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.”
Our scripture prayer is Isaiah 9:6…a very familiar passage containing power names of the Messiah. We conclude our podcast with the Christian hymn, “Who Is He in Yonder Stall?” I forgot our portion from “Gift of Gifts” from the Valley of Vision…so we’ll here those final thoughts in their entirety tomorrow. Thanks for your patience and prayers…I’m finally feeling much better today!
