It’s Christmas Eve! May it be a day full of blessing for everyone! 📖🎄☕ Some very beautiful,l peace-full thoughts for us today. Don’t miss them. It will set your heart to worship early on this day.
Reading today in Ephesians 2…gospel-rich truths about “the gift of God”– important for this Christmas season. Beautiful two words: “But God”. Oh, the exceeding riches of his grace and his kindness toward us! We finish out reviewing Psalm 103:1-13 this week. We’ll add verse 14 on Monday. The passage we are writing from God’s word today is Luke 2:8-12. We consider those shepherds who were “sore afraid” (in the Greek, literally “mega phobia”). Not exactly the serene pastoral scene you see on Christmas cards.
The message from Streams in the Desert for today is about the “Quiet Time With God”…”we should do more if we attempted less”…that’s a message for me. How about you? I need this message of calmness on this very busy day, full of wrapping, baking, cleaning, laundry, dishes, and all the rest. “Reverie is the Sunday of the mind.” Beautiful. An ending poem for those who are missing loved ones in Heaven this Christmas.
Tozer talks about “Leaders Who Are Spiritual Visionaries”–he says this should be, by all rights, known as “the Age of Sanctity” but instead it should be named “the Age of the Church’s Babylonish Captivity”. If you have a solid church and a loving, discerning pastor and leadership, thank the Lord for them today.
Spurgeon in Faith’s Checkbook shares some thoughts about our journey “Over Jordan With Singing”. Our enemy shall be proven to be a liar and that Jesus loses none that His Father has given Him. A table will be prepared in the presence of our enemies.
Our prayer scripture from His Mercy is New for this day is John 14:6–Jesus, our Messiah, is “the way, the truth, and the life”…all made possible by the Christ child, born to die for us. We finish with our final portion from “Gift of Gifts” from The Valley of Vision: “Let me with Simeon clasp the newborn child to my heart…In him you have given me so much, that heaven can give no more.”
Finally, we read the lyrics to the Christmas hymn, “Lo, How A Rose E’re Blooming”: “From sin and death he saves us, and lightens every load”.
Merry Christmas, friends!
