It’s up-n-over podcast day! Everything from here on is easy breezy downhill coasting, right? 📖🌻☕
Today we begin reading in 1 Peter 1–remember Peter? Deny 3 times Peter? Sinking-in-the-water Peter? Impetuous “I would die for you” Peter? And MOST importantly might, courageous preacher of the gospel Peter in Acts? Here he is, writing our next two epistles for us. Jesus looked beyond Peter’s faults: “…I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:32) Are you encouraged by that? I am! We continue with our memory passage, Matthew 5:3-4 and we are still looking at Deborah and also adding Jael to the mix in our scripture writing passage, Judges 4:21-22.
Streams in the Desert reminds us to “Cast Your Burdens Upon God”–“The word “burden” is translated in the Bible margin, “what he (Jehovah) hath given thee.” The saints’ burdens are God-given; they lead him to “wait upon Jehovah,” and when that is done, in the magic of trust, the “burden” is metamorphosed into a pair of wings, and the weighted one “mounts up with wings as eagles.”
Tozer discusses “The Fallacy of Secret Sin”–“Sin is three-dimensional and has consequences in three directions: toward God, toward self and toward society. It alienates from God, degrades self and injures others.”
Spurgeon discusses what it looks like to “Pray for Peace”–“If strife should cause bloodshed in our streets, or if foreign battle should slay our brave soldiers, we should all bewail the calamity; let us therefore pray for peace, and diligently promote those principles by which the classes at home and the races abroad may be bound together in bonds of amity.” Timely.
We finish today’s podcast with Jer. 29:7 as our prayer scripture and reading “The Infinite and the Finite” from The Valley of Vision. Thanks for stopping by!
