Hello and Happy Monday! A fresh week, a fresh day, a fresh podcast! 📖🌻☕
Revelation 3 is the passage you’ll be reading this morning, with a warning about lukewarmness for us all. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”. We memorize Matthew 5:3-8 this week as we internalize the Beatitudes, and today’s scripture writing takes us to Job 1:9-11 in considering one of the greatest strategies of the adversary in battle–he aims to overwhelm us to such a degree that we cannot think clearly/biblically, and resort to fleshly responses. Interestingly, the “Juggernaut car” (I looked it up) “is analogous to figurative uses of steamroller or battering ram to mean something overwhelming.” (Wikipedia)
Streams in the Desert offers the prayer, “Open My Eyes”, considering an event of divine intervention in battle: “It lies with each of us to choose which they shall be. It all depends, not upon what these events are, but upon how we take them.”
Tozer cautions us against “Mistaking Effect for Cause” when it comes to seeing revival happen in ourselves and in our churches–“The effects of revival are being mistaken for the causes of revival. And this to the confusion of everyone concerned and to the effective blocking of the spiritual refreshing for which so many are praying.”
Spurgeon also follows the spiritual warfare theme in “God’s Hornets” from Faith’s Checkbook–“We must obey our marching orders and go forth to the conquest of the nations for Jesus, and we shall find that the Lord has gone before us, and prepared the way; so that in the end we shall joyfully confess, “His own right hand, and his holy arm, have gotten him the victory.” Sometimes God provides a victory in a way so unexpected so that we might recognize His fingerprints all over it, and give Him praise.
We conclude today with “New Year” as our prayer in The Valley of Vision (isn’t it a blessing that we can have a new beginning at any time?) and our prayer scripture from our new resource from The Proverbial Homemaker is 1 Peter 4:8. We’ll use that to guide our prayer time this week.
