Do you remember Drop/Add from your college days–that small window of time when you could swap out classes, for whatever reason you deemed necessary? Do you wish you had that luxury for your elementary/middle school/secondary-aged child? With homeschooling, you do. And not just for a limited time, but whenever you see the need.
I remember in Junior High that I had a teacher who was just not a good fit for me. I simply wasn’t catching what he was throwing…in algebra, no less. His teaching style did not at all mesh with my learning style…but that was decades before educators knew to pay attention to such things. So I ended up in summer school.
I did not get the “intuitive mathing” gene. And now I’m facing trying to introduce higher maths to our youngest child, who has learning differences to factor in as well.
Have we done a lot of trial and error? Yes. Have we invested in stuff that ended up to be a total flop? Yes. Buyer’s remorse? Yes. Frustration for both of us? Regularly.
Here’s the thing, though. Because we homeschool, I watch the process up close. I see when she’s not getting it. It’s not that she’s just not into math…it’s that she is trying and the program du jour was not accomplishing the task of educating her. We’ve tried textbooks, workbooks, worksheets, online stuff. But today I actually saw a smile when she talked about math. Why? Teaching Textbooks.
I’d tried this program with our son, who is more profoundly dyslexic than our youngest. Not a fit. But as home educators we often see that one thing may work for one child and not at all for another. Or it may be a fit this year, but not the next. We can customize.
What our youngest is enjoying about this free trial of Teaching Textbooks Geometry:
- The text is on the screen, so she sees it but also hears it read aloud at a doable pace
- Lessons are rewindable and not overly-long
- If I give her permission, she can have do-overs on questions and also click to see solutions to understand when she gets something wrong
- Everything is very visual, and the platform is visually appealing to her beauty-loving eyes
- Interactive assessments, not worksheets
- Minimal “writing”
- Tutoring available if we find ourselves stranded on a rhombus-y desert island
- Fun, customizable wallpaper which appeals to her artistic side
The free trial is available for any and all levels. It will take you up through Lesson 15, with no expiration. If you decide to purchase, your work will roll over into the course(s) you buy.
Does it work? See for yourself. ⬇⬇⬇⬇ Try it for as many levels as you want/need at no risk. You don’t even have to provide payment information unless you decide to buy it.

Well said, Diane! Thank you for the reminder that customizing curriculum truly is a luxury.
We are teaching textbooks users, too, primarily because the program offers the option to watch the solution to any and every problem. My oldest two tackled math on their own with Teaching Textbooks. These days I have the luxury of more time to spend with my youngest two, and so we typically sit by each other and work the problems together. Long division and algebra are actually kind of fun! =)
This entire school year has been a work in progress…so grateful we can tweak, adjust, reboot where needed!
